About

Michael Ugom is a graduate of Geography at Bachelor degree level with a Masters in Environmental Management and Control at the University of Nigeria. His flair for writing and photography sprouted from childhood and he has since developed this amazing interest which later inspired his choice of study at both undergraduate and graduate levels respectively. As an undergraduate student of Geography, Michael won so many awards and accolades as the best student of Geography. He designed several maps using the Geographic Information System (GIS) tool to aid his design. He is skillful in Cartography, Geinformatics, Web Development and Basic Python programming. While in school, he contested for the position of an Academic Director and won, a position he used in positively changing the face of the department by introducing intra-faculty debates and quizzes encompassing Geography, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Agricultural Science departments. His position as an academic department witnessed the design of a model Globe showing the countries of the world. The idea was to instill in the minds of the students the amazing nature that constitutes the universe. He also used his position to organize tutorials for academically weak students to appreciate Geography as an Earth science discipline and embrace the fun that comes with studying both physical and human Geography. He also taught students Mathematics and Chemistry.

Sequel to his giant strides and impacts as a Geography student, his internship at the National Space Research and Development Agency, Nigeria's foremost Space body, facilitated his love for outer space and astronomy. Michael Ugom published a lot of articles and academic journals on space science and research with applications in food security, healthcare, flooding, crime mapping and surveillance and so many other applications. In graduate study, his best course was Global Environmental Challenge, a course that discusses the different environmental challenges that are prevalent in different parts of the world, ranging from wildfire, desert encroachment, flooding, land degradation and erosion among others with solutions to curbing the menace from environmental disasters. He further improved his zeal for travel writing and photography by creating contents on his blog for travellers to know their way around different parts of Nigeria, his home country.

His inception into writing and travel photography professionally started from the Steemit blockchain back in 2017. Steemit blockchain attracted him to the blockchain niche and in a bid to adding values in his own way, he chose the path of content creation and community management. Michael Ugom has worked for a lot of writing and blogging agencies that includes Space In Africa, Polygon (Matic), NFTSwap, Hive and Svetrating. During the wake of covid19 amidst the nationwide lockdowns across the world, Michael co-authored a book published on Amazon titled Stories from history to help us through the covid-19 pandemic: love, loss and hope in the Spanish flu of 1918. He has since co-authored and self authored several books on Amazon in topics ranging from space science and astronomy, blockchain and travels.
