After much begging, I was given my first camera at the age of 9 in 1972. I was hooked immediately and it has been a lifelong love affair. My father swapped nursing in Perth, Western Australia, for shark fishing on the rugged south coast in and around Esperance around the same time – for me, an introduction to the natural world at a very tough and elemental level – I absorbed it all and fell in love with the place that I would call home for the next 10 years - sometimes a tent on a beach, sometimes a house, and all manner of shelter in between.
My pocket money from school holidays working on Dad’s boat was spent on that precious 24 exp roll of film each month – the 2 weeks wait for the chemist to get the photos back, did they turn out, did I waste my money. It was all a learning experience! A move back to the city at age 18, marriage, work, and raising two boys left much less time for photography than I would have liked, but I slowly managed equipment upgrades, trips back to the family on the south coast, and welcomed the change to digital with much trial and error.
40 years later, family raised, newly retired, and I have plenty of state, national and international travel behind me (photographing all the way). I have the freedom and time to revel in the south coast and celebrate, through photography, the world my father found all those years ago. I truly believe this place to be one of the most beautiful in the world. I am incredibly grateful to be given a chance to spend time here. Links below if you would like to see more. My philosophy is to keep things as natural as possible with minimal editing, and I love Lightroom! I mostly photograph land and seascapes, but I am there if something grabs my eye. Thank you.
