I write of my travels from the perspective of a mature solo woman traveller. The recent journeys I write about are all trips that I would recommend for everyone, but mainly for the lone woman. I do not intend to self promote but to encourage. With an overwhelming thirst for adventure, I set off around the world in my twenties. I departed with a list of exotic lands and high adventures that I was willing to give up everything. The focus was always the experience, and comfort was not an issue. I soon began to look beyond the backpacker life and reach out into the communities I was visiting, as this is where the magic happens.

In my fifties, I have evolved into a different type of traveller. Thirty years ago, I had all the time in the world. Now my time is precious. I carefully plan my trips to avoid rushing through exciting places and not lingering too long. I choose the fastest way to reach a destination, as time in transit is rarely quality time. I choose locations that have had good experiences with tourists and welcome them. I will only travel halfway around the world to see a unique destination. There must be something special to see: a challenge, an experience, a fantastic hike, a spectacular place.
