The largest sinkhole of its sort in Australia is called the Dismal Swamp. You can descend by foot or use the 110-meter slide to access Blackwood's pathway and forest floor. It is located in the very northwest, 32 kilometres from Smithton and 116 kilometres (90 minutes) from Burnie. The boardwalk winds through the forest, guiding you to natural beauty and artwork produced by several well-known Tasmanian artists. The 624-hectare sinkhole is like a portal to another universe. Before the construction of the boardwalk, the artists made the pieces after visiting Dismal Swamp and drawing inspiration from it.

Visitors can better understand this ancient habitat, created by the dolomite's dissolution, thanks to interpretive markers. A significant portion of the terrain has remained unspoiled due to the steep sides acting as a barrier to invading weeds and animal pests. Rare birds and the little-known burrowing crayfish call it home. On Wednesdays at 8 p.m., an exceptional performance of 'Dismal by Night' is offered if there are enough reservations., and reservations are required.

A cantilevered walkway hung above the treetops connects the visitor centre and restaurant at the top of the sinkhole from which you can see the forest. Enjoy your meal in the restaurant, which is licensed and open for special parties and functions, as well as the traditional Christmas luncheon or supper. You can get lunch boxes from the restaurant to take with you as you explore Dismal Swamp. There is a forest interpretation area where you may learn more about the local history and unusual ecosystem.

A gentleman's home and farm from the 1830s can be seen in detail at Highfield Historic Site. The mansion is being rebuilt over time, and a sizable attractive garden surrounds its elegant Regency design, convict barracks, barns, stables, and chapel. The Van Diemen's Land Company's principal agent, Edward Curr, began construction in 1832, and John Lee Archer added on afterwards.

In 1826, the VDL town was established on 350,000 acres that George IV had granted under a royal charter. The original farm now only occupies around nine acres and is open to tourists every day from 09:00 to 16:30, except on Christmas Day. Additionally, the location can be used as a wedding, meeting, or artist in a residential setting. Additionally, welcome are coach groups and school groups. Choose whether the tale of Highfield is one of triumph or tragedy.

The charming Stanley is about 3 kilometres from the Highfield Historic Site, which is situated at 143 Greenhills Road. Visitors are welcome every day from September through May, and the site is closed on weekends from June to August. There are entrance costs, groups are welcome, and the location is also open for weddings and gatherings.
