The best attraction in the area and all of Tasmania is thought to be Allendale Gardens. A magnificent 7 acres of lovely garden 'rooms' were created to display colour all year. An expansive 65-acre 'rainforest' trail surrounds the grounds. There are also Devonshire teas available. These lovely gardens are located 10 kilometres south of Smithton, between Sarah Anne Rocks, the South Arthur Forests, the Western Explorer, and the stunning Tarkine Coast.

The far northwest of Tasmania is home to the exquisitely planted Allendale Gardens, which are situated next to a temperate rainforest. The 26 hectares (16 acres) of cool temperate rainforest and the two and a half hectares (6 acres) of groomed gardens and lawns are located near Edith Creek. Loraine and Max Cross have devoted their lives to creating Allendale Gardens. The 2.75 hectares (6 acres) of gardens, which are situated 12 km south of Smithton in the North West, are next to 65 acres of temperate rainforest with its accompanying footpaths.

The garden 'rooms' are intended to offer a spectacular display of colour during the early months. Here, trees and conifers from all over the world are scattered throughout to provide interest in addition to the flowers and their impressive display of colours. Henry Hellyer, a Van Diemen Land Company surveyor, gave the Arthur River its name in honour of Lieutenant Governor Arthur in 1827. The Peerapper Aboriginal linguistic group, who had previously resided in the area, was forcibly relocated during the 1800s to make room for European settlement.

Hardy grasses and shrubs cling to life wherever they can find protection and set deep roots to endure. There is a lot to do in the area, whether you want to get up close and personal with a curious cow or admire the magnificence of tall trees and grand rivers in silent jungles. The northwest stretch of Tarkine Drive and South Arthur Drive offers the best opportunity to discover the Tarkine's diversity. There is no better way to take in the scenery, which includes charming seaside hamlets, fertile farmland, cool temperate rainforest, and wild areas. The northern Tarkine fringe, which encircles the northwest corner of the State, is easily accessible by this route, travelling through active and protected woodlands. The Nut, located close to Stanley's historical settlement in this remote region of northwest Tasmania, is a popular tourist destination. The Nut is an old volcanic plug with a sizable, essentially flat surface that can be walked around (hence its original name, Circular Head). There are two ways to climb to the top of the Nut and enjoy the breathtaking views of Stanley and the surrounding farmland. The walking track is best suited for people who want an athletic challenge because it is rather steep and requires climbing 152 meters to reach the peak. It will take you around 10 to 20 minutes to complete the route.

Alternatively, choose the chairlift, which travels 250 meters while rising 95 meters. The ride takes just five minutes, and there are several great photo ops along the way. Most of the year, the chairlift runs seven days a week, but check the weather beforehand. It is not in use when there are strong winds, from late June to late August. The old volcanic plug that is all that is left of Stanley, a historical hamlet in far-northwest Tasmania, lies tucked at the base of the Nut, a sheer-sided cliff.

You may reach the summit of the Nut through a hiking trail or by taking the chairlift, which offers breathtaking views of the town and the beaches of the Bass Strait.
