Welcome to Nelson - Top Attractions and Local Culture

Nelson Tasman is a wonderful and vibrant region where art and business thrive together among stunning natural landscapes.

Nelson Tasman is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, with a diverse geography, covering everything from long golden beaches to pristine forests and rugged mountains.

It may be the sun, it may be the location, but Nelson Tasman has long been a magnet for creative people. With one of the highest number of active artists and galleries in the country, you will find a wide variety of craftsmen living in the region: traditional, contemporary and Māori. Visit their studios, explore weekend art markets, sample delicious locally made artisan products and find something extraordinary to take home.

Walk on the sun-drenched sand at Golden Bay or head inland to Takaka and see crystal clear waters from New Zealand's largest freshwater spring. Walk the Abel Tasman track for 3-5 days or, for a different view, take a sea kayaking tour around the coast and watch seal colonies and little blue penguins bobbing in the water. Sample the region's food by cycling the Tasman's Great Taste Trail or get your daily dose of adrenaline by visiting one of the region's world-class mountain bike parks.

Lake Rotoiti is one of 16 lakes in the Nelson Lakes National Park and is certainly a draw card for visitors to the alpine village of St Arnaud.

You can buy specialties from one of the many hot food stalls. We love the large vegetable rotis from the Taste of Sri Lanka shop and our friends recommend the vegan pie from the Rainbow Kitchen stand (try the lentil pie with chili sauce).

Abel Tasman National Park is a paradise for white sand beaches. Home to native seals, dolphins and seabirds, it's the perfect setting for kayaking trips.

Feeling the sensation with friends near the sea while tasting delicious food with a beautiful view will certainly be provided here.
